VERA Texas
VERA-TX provides browsable access to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum standards alongside TELPAS and STAAR assessment integration. Explore state standards and identify Type 4 dyslexia candidates through oral-written delta analysis.
Launch VERA-TX Request DemoTEKS Integration
VERA-TX ingests TEKS curriculum standards directly from the Texas Education Agency via the CASE (Competency and Academic Standards Exchange) API. Navigate the complete TEKS structure by subject area, grade level, and student expectation.
English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and electives organized by discipline.
K-12 standards with grade-band progressions showing how expectations build across years.
Drill down to specific student expectations (SEs) that define what students should know and be able to do.
TEKS data syncs from TEA sources to reflect current state-adopted curriculum standards.
Type 4 Detection
Type 4 dyslexia candidates demonstrate strong oral communication abilities but significant challenges with written expression. VERA-TX uses the delta between TELPAS Speaking scores and Writing domain performance to flag students for further evaluation.
TELPAS Speaking domain scores measure oral language production, fluency, and comprehension in classroom contexts.
TELPAS Writing domain and STAAR Reading/ELA scores capture written expression, organization, and conventions.
When the oral-written delta exceeds 8 points, the student is flagged as a Type 4 candidate requiring additional screening.
Texas Data Systems
VERA-TX integrates with Texas's established assessment and accountability systems, using publicly available district-level data to identify patterns that warrant individual student review.

Accountability Integration
Texas rates schools and districts on an A-F scale across Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. VERA-TX displays A-F ratings alongside Type 4 detection to show how identification gaps affect accountability.
Texas uses TELPAS composite and domain scores to determine English Learner exit eligibility. Students with high speaking but low writing scores may meet oral thresholds while struggling academically.
Texas requires dyslexia screening for all students. VERA-TX helps identify Type 4 candidates who may be missed by traditional screening focusing only on decoding skills.
Texas has over 1 million English Learners across 1,200+ districts. Early Type 4 identification in major districts like Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio can significantly improve statewide outcomes.
Pilot Districts
Initial deployment includes Texas's largest and most diverse districts, selected for their significant English Learner populations and established data reporting infrastructure.
